Wildlife reports are divided into surveys addressing five species groups: small game, big game, waterfowl, furbearers, and nongame. Interpretations to data in these reports are subject to change as a result of data verification and more extensive data analysis. Please contact the appropriate author for additional clarification or further interpretation of survey results. These reports were made possible by Pittman-Robertson funding.

Semi-annual reports are distributed in April and August.

Visit each tab below for different species reports.

Deer
  • Impacts of predators on white-tailed deer population growth and recruitment in Wisconsin
  • Note to readers of this report: Research scientists Christopher Jacques, Department of Natural Resources, and Timothy Van Deelen, University of Wisconsin-Madison, have co-authored this summary report of 90 published scientific studies on the impacts of wolf, bear and other predators on white-tailed deer.

As part of this effort they also did a preliminary analysis of a portion of Wisconsin-specific deer harvest and predator population data. The summary presented below is not intended to answer questions specific to the Wisconsin deer-predator relationship.

The results of their report and analysis and the field reports of hunters will be used to design Wisconsin-specific field research intended to better clarify the true impacts of predators on deer in Wisconsin.

This research will take place over the next 1 to 3 years.
